NOVEMBER 13-17, 2024
@ The Joyce Theater | 175 Eigth Avenue
GALLIM returns to The Joyce with the New York premiere of Andrea Miller’s WONDERLAND, a playground of ironies brought to life by the virtuosity, unconditional commitment, and fierce physicality of its dancers. Between selfie smiles and white knuckles, WONDERLAND examines pack mentality: animal instincts, social appetites, and colorful terrors. Sound design by Jakub Kiupinski & Cristina Spinei of Blind Ear Music gives a charming yet sinister edge to Miller’s visceral and kinetic movement.

DOMINICA GREENE
JUNE 17 - 28
" Holding a mirror to a world where the ritual practice of tapping into ancestral wealth via trance in music and dance is understood as natural and inherently communal, movement artist Dominica Greene and musician Wesley Simpson merge forces to craft an ecosystem where construction and excavation run concurrently, from a guttural place of memory and need. PORTRAITS
"The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC presents the world premiere of PORTRAITS, a nine-movement commission that represents the vibrant spectrum of sexual, gender, racial, ethnic, and cultural identities through visual art, music, and dance. Each movement will feature one of nine artworks and come to life through music and motion. Each piece will highlight an aspect of the human experience, with lyrics and dance supporting the artist's original intent. Nine artists. Nine composers. Nine choreographers. One GMCW."
Featuring a piece choreographed by Andrea Miller, performed by GALLIM Artist, Chloe Crenshaw
VALENTINA BACHÉ RODRÍGUEZ
JUNE 10 - 21
" My ongoing research focuses on durational exercises, such as spinning for hours without stopping and reaching trance states that quiet the hectic, guilt-ridden, and unloved parts of myself. What practices does the body need to sustain long years of resisting oppression? I am guided by Mayan Zapatista's fierce models of how language (movement) can give way to prioritizing the collective heart's health above anything else. Practicing a readiness to defend autonomy and rejecting being paralyzed by fear while having the tools to always act from a place of love. "

" Exploring gender, coloniality, and bodily connections to land far and near, I want to excavate stories of “pain” in the body in a movement-centered conjuring of memory, history, and embodied seance. "
